During the 40th anniversary edition of the EuroPower&OZEPower conference, held on November 7-8, 2024, at The Westin Warsaw Hotel, participants had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of debates and panels dedicated to key aspects of the transformation of Poland’s energy sector.
The conference began with an introduction by Dr. Leszek Juchniewicz, President of the Polish Nuclear Power Plants and Chairman of the Program Council, who emphasized the key significance of this event for the Polish energy industry.
Subsequently, government representatives took the floor: Jakub Jaworowski, Minister of State Assets, Marzena Czarnecka, Minister of Industry, and Dariusz Standerski, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Digital Affairs. Their speeches focused on the current challenges and strategic plans related to the development of the energy sector in Poland.
The first debate addressed the challenges in the power sector, focusing on infrastructure modernization and the role of legal regulations and local governments in promoting energy transformation. The topic of gas and fuels was then discussed, where participants analyzed supply stability, LNG infrastructure development, and innovative technologies in the fuel industry.
A significant part of the program was a debate on energy cybersecurity, which highlighted the growing threats associated with the digitalization of the sector and the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation and modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain in ensuring security.
A block dedicated to energy storage indicated its key role in the development of the photovoltaic sector. Subsequent panels presented issues related to wind farms and barriers to their development, as well as ways to increase transparency in grid connection processes.
During the session on the costs of energy transformation, participants analyzed how investments in energy efficiency and ESG technologies can impact industrial competitiveness.
There was also a discussion on nuclear energy, which sparked conversations about project timelines, safety standards, and long-term waste management strategies. In the context of the future of energy infrastructure, particular attention was paid to the challenges and strategies for developing distribution networks, indicating the need for investment and modern technological solutions.
In the debate on financial policy, the availability of capital and financing models for renewable energy projects were discussed, drawing attention to regulations that affect the sector. The final panel focused on the challenges of decarbonizing the heat sector and integrating renewable energy sources.
The first day of the conference concluded with a gala ceremony, highlighting the 20-year history and contribution of the event to the development of dialogue on the future of Polish energy. The EuroPower&OZEPower conference has proven that cross-sectoral cooperation and a modern approach to the challenges facing the Polish energy market are key to achieving sustainable development and energy security.
