On 16-17 November, 2020 the 32nd EuroPower Energy Conference and the 2nd OZE (RES) Power Congress took place. The event, which has been taking place cyclically, is a platform for discussing the current challenges and trends in the energy sector as well as the development of renewable energy sources. During the meeting, organised in the form of online broadcast, almost half a thousand participants listened to substantive presentations and debates with the participation of key representatives of the sector.
The conference was officially opened by Dr. Leszek Juchniewicz, Chairman of the EuroPower Advisory Board. Then, the Guest of Honor, Ireneusz Zyska, Secretary of State, Government Plenipotentiary for RES in the Ministry of Climate and Environment took the floor. The inaugural debate was devoted to the discussion on the challenges and the course of transformation of the Polish energy sector in the new reality.
Another issue analysed by the experts were financial instruments supporting the process of climate neutrality. “On October 19, PGE presented its green return strategy. Our participation in the EU has brought us to the fait accompli that now is the time to transform, or the Polish energy sector will cease to exist. We’re spending the most money on CO2 emission allowances. The main assumptions of PGE’s strategy are a proven scenario involving the separation of coal assets into a separate entity, and by 2050 we should build a new conventional energy base, i.e. nuclear, and the entire RES sector. In the years of 2026-2028, our offshore wind capacity will be in commercial use. We focus on the development of solar energy and energy storage. We will invest in heating and distribution networks. We want Polish companies to participate as much as possible in the investment process” – said Paweł Strączyński, Vice President of the Management Board for Finance at PGE.
As part of the panels, the speakers also discussed issues such as adapting the infrastructure to the development of distributed energy, the role of gas in the energy transformation, factors influencing the development of photovoltaic farms and the process of digitisation of the energy sector.
On the second day of the conference, the winners of the World Leaders of Energy Competition were honored. The competition aims to popularise people who, with their knowledge and professional experience, contributed to the development of the energy market in Poland, the most interesting products and solutions offered and to the promotion of Polish technical thought in the field of energy. Distinguished across 6 categories were:

PKP Energetyka in the Project of the Year category
ATENDE in the Solution Provider of the Year category

Polska Grupa Biogazowa in the RES Producer of the Year category

During the debates, the speakers focused on the challenges and opportunities for the energy sector in the era of smart consumers, the market of alternative fuels in the Polish energy sector and the security of energy facilities. Also discussed were issues related to sectoral integration of energy in Poland, the implementation of the common goal of “greening” the power industry and the use of hydrogen in decarbonisation and sector integration.
